SAW Local: Coming Up In April
This April we have a packed calendar of Workshops, Skillshares and free events to connect you to comics, artmaking and the Gainesville community. Join us in the SAW space and around Alachua County to tell stories and exercise those artmaking muscles.
Surprise yourself, surprise your reader
Few media hold as much opportunity for surprise as comics. You see a single-panel image, the caption surprises you; you move from one panel to the next, new context surprises you; you turn the page, and, bam! A big, splashy reveal. And, because writing and drawing use different parts of our brains, making comics also presents the unusual opportunity to surprise ourselves. Join instructor Miden Wood in the SAW space for four weeks of comic creative play.
Support young and emerging local talent
Our 2023-24 Emerging Artists in Residence are here to share their knowledge in skills in the latest round of Skillshares. From tips and tricks for using color to how to get comfortable with digital tools, come learn from them in the SAW studio for Sundays in April (including April 14, 21 and 28).
Adventure With Us
Starting Wednesday April 24, 2024, Carly Shooster will lead an 8-week group expedition for folks working on long term projects. Join her and a group of other adventurers in the space weekly!
Dip Into Comics Academia
This year the UF Graduate Comics Organization returns with their annual conference April 5 to 7, exploring all things kids comics. Check out their schedule to see if there’s a workshop or panel that catches your eye, and find local comics and zine makers at Ustler Hall from 3.30PM to 5PM on Saturday April 6.
Comics are for everyone
SAW is committed to comics access for all. Want to join any one of our workshops or skillshares but don’t have the means? Reach out to us at admin@sequentialartistsworkshop.org to see how you can get involved.
